Sohan Khalsa Creative Custom Wedding Invitation Designer

Hey there!

My name is Sohan Kaur Khalsa. It might be a handful, so, call me Sohan!

I’m a freelance designer, illustrator, artist, teacher, yogini… ok I do a lot and I’ve been doing most of these things for 10 years and some even longer. I live in Austin, Texas with my fantastic husband and two fun and fuzzy cats. My clients come from all over the world, places like Australia, Finland, and the US! I like to create beautiful and functional pieces for clients, whether it’s a logo or a custom wedding invitation, a pet portrait or a beautiful spiritual piece of art.

I’ve held a pencil for as long as I can remember, I’m pretty sure my mom still has some toddler drawings! But really, creativity runs in my family. My great grandfather taught himself to paint with oils. My grandmother is a self-taught artist and designer and my other grandma was always crafting or sewing or crocheting something. We have crocheted bedspreads in the family (queen size, and full size)! My parents owned a flower shop while I was growing up in Florida and you know I spent a few summers there working and learning the trade and put myself through college by working in flower shops. Yes, ladies! I know about wedding florals too!

Speaking of college, I went to the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University to get a BFA in Fine Arts and have worked as a designer and artist for about 10 years since then. (But who do you think did the marketing designs for my parents’ business back in high school? Yeah, that was me.)

For a couple of years now I’ve been wildly excited about calligraphy in many forms and look forward to working with wonderful folks who love hand lettering on custom designs, artwork and wedding pieces. There’s a lot to take in here, I teach watercolor classes now on Skillshare and offer watercolor pet portraits. I spend free time working on oil and acrylic paintings in the Sikh and Kundalini Yoga genres. These spiritual paintings and designs help me feel elevated and I hope that they elevate others as well.

Outside of being a creative, I practice Kundalini Yoga daily. You can find some free yoga videos on my blog www.shinerightnow.com. My husband and I lead a crazy early yoga class at 4am on Wednesdays where he plays guitar while we meditate. We have a couple of goofy and loving kitties and love to go on adventures. I am close to vegan so you’ll see some recipe illustrations here and there popping up and who knows what else might come about! Check out Instagram for all the wild new ideas that are happening and then let me know how I can help you!
